For ye are mine

So some of you may know I am currently on we will call here an "extended camping trip", and last night as I listened to the rain hit my tarp while going to bed the line in D&C 50:41 kept coming to mind "Fear not little children, For you are mine..."  this really caused me to think about the atonement and the price that christ paid. the line from the LDS hymn "I Stand All Amazed" really seemed to hit home with how I was feeling:

I think of his hands pierced and bleeding to pay the debt.
Such mercy, such love and devotion can i forget?

if we really get down and think about the atonement and Christ assertion in D&C that we are his, i realize that we are his! Christ has already paid the price for our sins regardless of if we chose to except this gift our not, the price has already been paid and our souls have already been bought. I thought about this and ow it compares to Christ as the shepherd. when you purchase a sheep it still has the ability to choose to follow its shepherd or not, often you do see sheep that wander away from the shepherd, but even thought the sheep has wandered away it is still the owned by the shepherd, he has already paid the price for the sheep, weather the sheep is aware of it or not.

Looking at it this way helps to really illustrate what follows in D&C 50:41,42:

"...and I have over come the world. and ye are of them that my Father hath given me.

42. And none that my Father hath given me shall be lost"

We are the Christ sheep, He has already paid the price for us, and as such he will give us shelter and care for us, when we are lost he shall seek for us. wither we want it or not the atonement was performed, the price for our sins was paid, so will we let such a great gift go to waste?
